AMATEUR RADIO

MY CALL SIGN IS WD6BFR

MY WIFE’S CALL SIGN IS KA6FUP

OUR SON PAUL’S CALL SIGN IS WD6BVJ

My first license (novice) was on August 1, 1977, also Paul got his license at the same time.  A group of us from Yuba City, CA went with Terry Brandt to Oroville to study for our licenses.  Leita got her license from a class in Yuba City, taught by Jimmie Powell (WA6FGZ) and I helped with the class. I am a life member of the ARRL.

My first contact was WD6CEM, a neighbor not far away on fifteen meters CW, 21150.  Since then we have met many fellow hams and traveled with several of them.

One of the most important parts of Amateur Radio is emergency communications.  We have helped several times with floods and fires.  The Amateur community has radio equipment all over the world and many communication repeaters for local use.  In times of emergency this equipment and the operators become very important to the community.  The normal communications sometimes are destroyed by the disaster or overloaded.
